ARTIST NOTES: I think I am in the middle of a personal spiritual expansion, or existence awareness, or I don’t know what to call it. But I had a day dream while meditating recently that helped me feel so clearly that we are not just connected, but together, like one. All of us. One same consciousness. I know, oh gosh, that sounds so cliche. I am cringing as I write this. But the idea is that before we are born and after we die we are all mushed together. Everything is shared. Everything is love. And then when we come to earth, we experience life here as separate. But really, underneath our lives, we are all the same essence.
This painting relates to that idea. The lines in the sky connect the earth (here, this life, now) and the atmosphere (after and before life). The known and the unknown touching and connected.
(The lines in the sky happened on their own. Meaning, they were in my spontaneous underpainting and when I painted the sky, the lines were already there and making a story. I didn’t make a choice to add them, but to keep them. Sometimes this happens - the painting paints itself. I just follow the path of least resistance.)

As I was moving away from San Francisco, I wanted to capture the beauty of the view from my hilltop flat. I'd fallen in love with Liana's work when I'd seen it years earlier, and I knew she was who I wanted to bring that vision to life. Luckily for me she said yes. It was in the height of the pandemic so we did a video call, and I gave her the tour and shared some pictures. She turned that into a beautiful reincarnation of that gorgeous vista that I can now look at every day, even though I've moved thousands of miles away. She was amazing to work with and knew exactly what to do to bring three dimensions to life on canvas. Liana did such an amazing job. Every time I look at that painting I really feel like I'm back home in my apartment in the trees.
I am lucky to have two beautiful pieces from Liana in my home. One is a small painting that offers a much sought after anchor point for resetting in my office to clear my mind from the chaos and stress of work with texture, color and richness. The second is a gorgeous print above my bed that provides engaging and calming colors and reminds me of the landscapes I grew up around in Marin. Liana's art effortlessly captures the color, beauty, and calm of the northern California coast and hills. I've admired and followed her work for a long time, and now proudly hang two of her pieces in my home. They have become some of my most loved possessions.
