Original Oil Landscape Painting of Mount Tamalpais by Liana Steinmetz
Artist Notes: I am driving from Bolinas, up towards Rock Springs on Tam. I am about to hit Bolinas Ridge, but before I do I come around the corner and the view stuns me. The light is low and warm. The sharp sun hits the hills so completely, I swear I can see every blade of grass, every pine needle. The shadows are long and silky. I slow down and stop. I have to take this in. I look past my hands on the steering wheel. My rings are shining in the light and I give myself permission to just sit here for a while.
DETAILS:
- Original Landscape
- Oil on stretched canvas for locals. Rolled canvas for out of town. See shipping note below*

Enhance your original painting with a high-quality hardwood floating frame:
Crafted from beautiful hardwood, this frame adds 2/3" to each side of your artwork, giving it a sleek, finished look. The floating frame design creates the illusion that your artwork is floating in the center, with a small space between the piece and the frame. This modern, gallery-like appearance not only enhances depth but also protects the edges of your artwork. Choose between two elegant hardwood options: Blonde Maple or Dark Walnut. Made in the USA.
NOTE: Ordering a frame will add an additional 1 week to delivery time, Delivery time will be 3-5 weeks in total.
*Shipping is $200 if you live near the Bay Area or Sacramento. If you live further than that, shipping will be free, but the painting will arrive on rolled canvas. I suggest having it shipped it to your local framer who can attach the painting back on wooden stretcher bars for you. If you have questions about this, please call me. When out of town designers order large paintings, this is the way we always do it because it is so expensive to ship large paintings. If you are out of town, I will reimburse you the $200 in shipping after the order.
If you have any questions about a purchase, want more photos or to do a video chat, please call or email me. I am happy to talk! Purchasing art online can be intimidating, so just reach out if you need some more information.

Packed with Care
Making sure your painting arrives safely is one of the most important parts of my business. I use bubble wrap, newspaper, and honeycomb packing paper to make sure your painting stays in perfect condition along its journey.
I feel strongly about creating as little waste as possible so I reuse packing materials whenever I can, but they will always protect your paintings with maximum care. Your painting may come in a reused box and/or with gently used bubble wrap or paper.
Framed Originals
Except for my small paintings, most original paintings come unframed. For those, the sides are painted as a continuation of the painting, so they look finished and beautiful to hang without a frame.
Want to Add a Frame?
If you prefer a frame, I've got you covered. Select either a walnut or maple floating frame from the dropdown menu above or Contact me if there is another type of frame you would like. The frame will be custom made from hardwood, so it will add about one week to your order, so the total will be 3-5 weeks until delivery. My favorite style of frame is a walnut or maple float, which means there is air space between the painting and the frame.

It is a visual delight to drink deeply of Liana's paintings in one book, turning pages slowly to study and admire color, composition and strokes. My daughter now lives in Marin County, and it's fun to recognize scenes and vistas from Liana's perspective. Thanks for this treat, Liana, and I hope to plein air paint with you in one of my future visits!
I bought a mid-sized painting of Cala lilies that now hangs in my bedroom. They are fresh and graceful and you can almost feel the sunshine and smell the fresh air. I enjoy the warmth of its presence and love having such a treasure! Thank you Liana !
I am a Liana fan and just bought two more paintings. Sweet Greens Big Sur is very large, so I was a little nervous about it, but it is stunning and makes me so happy. Lemon Light is also gorgeous and the colors are so soft and pretty. I get lots of compliments on her work and I just love having it throughout my home. Looking forward to adding a floral to my collection some day.
Liana's paintings are a beautiful addition to our client' art collection. Her unique style, brushstroke, and use of colors make her work stand out. In addition, the paintings arrive perfectly intact due to their careful packaging/shipping. We couldn't be happier!
I’m absolutely in love with my large print! The colors are vibrant and convey the original brushstrokes wonderfully. Th frame is lovely and elevates the look. It’s such a wonderful centerpiece in my living room, I ended up ordering another for my bedroom!
I fell in love with this painting the moment I saw it and feel so fortunate that I was able to bring it into my home. The painting is gorgeous and brings me so much joy!
In regard to purchasing, the website was easy to navigate and the painting arrived carefully packaged and right on time!
Liana’s work is exquisite, her use of color, how she visually explores space and shape. She’s my favorite landscape artist, hands down!
As I was moving away from San Francisco, I wanted to capture the beauty of the view from my hilltop flat. I'd fallen in love with Liana's work when I'd seen it years earlier, and I knew she was who I wanted to bring that vision to life. Luckily for me she said yes. It was in the height of the pandemic so we did a video call, and I gave her the tour and shared some pictures. She turned that into a beautiful reincarnation of that gorgeous vista that I can now look at every day, even though I've moved thousands of miles away. She was amazing to work with and knew exactly what to do to bring three dimensions to life on canvas. Liana did such an amazing job. Every time I look at that painting I really feel like I'm back home in my apartment in the trees.
I am lucky to have two beautiful pieces from Liana in my home. One is a small painting that offers a much sought after anchor point for resetting in my office to clear my mind from the chaos and stress of work with texture, color and richness. The second is a gorgeous print above my bed that provides engaging and calming colors and reminds me of the landscapes I grew up around in Marin. Liana captures sensation, emotion and location so beautifully in her work, I feel held and connected when I am in the presence of her art. Thank you Liana!
Liana's art effortlessly captures the color, beauty, and calm of the northern California coast and hills. I've admired and followed her work for a long time, and now proudly hang two of her pieces in my home. They have become some of my most loved possessions. Working with Liana to select and order the pieces was so enjoyable. She was collaborative, answering all my questions and providing more pictures at my request. I love escaping to the Marin headlands through her art, and I hope to collect more of her work in the future.
